Apollo is the ancient Greek god of light, patron of the arts, son of the goddess Latona and Zeus. Persecuted by the dragon Python, who was summoned by the thunderer’s jealous wife Hera, Latona wandered the land for a long time, seeking shelter. But nowhere could the goddess find peace. Only on the island of Delos she took refuge in the wrath of Hera and her terrible monster.

The desolate, deserted island became a refuge for the goddess for many years. Here she gave birth to two children: her daughter Artemis and her son Apollo. After the twins were born, the island was bathed in sunlight. On the once lifeless soil, flowers and trees blossomed, and the jubilant nature rang out with joyful bells.

Many goddesses descended from Olympus to praise the appearance of the babies. But when Apollo grew up and matured, he decided to seek out Python, the offender of his mother. The god took cruel revenge for Latona’s torment by piercing the dragon’s heart with an arrow from his golden bow.
