Sparta is the famous land that gives birth to the warrior. To the rugged city — rugged mores and traditions, in which men were raised who were ready to defend their homeland against an aggressor. But even here there are problems of their own.

The rulers have largely contributed to this. Among them is the king Agis, who shaped the image of Sparta known to many, and brought order there.

Agis is remembered for his struggle with the Iloths, the farmers who stood between the slaves and the serfs. The monarch began to deprive the Ilots of their privileges, which allowed him to subjugate all the Spartan tribes.

The only people who did not like the new order were the Aelians. They revolted against Agis. In response, the new monarch gathered an army, and quickly crushed the discontented, taking their city under siege.

When the rebels surrendered, Agis privileged them and made them slaves, who could not be sold outside Sparta or released. The governor declared himself harshly, and would confirm his temper more than once.
