The girl has diphtheria. After the operation and the baby’s recovery, rumors spread through the village that she had an iron throat.

The doctor goes to see his patient at night. Because of a blizzard, the wagon has gone astray. The doctor is too late. The patient passed away. This is the first death in his practice.
