A sorcerer wants to marry his own daughter. On being refused, he kills the daughter, her husband and son. But the sorcerer is found by an enormous horseman and handed over to his dead ancestors to be mauled.

Katerina, together with her husband Danila and their young son, lives on a farm. Her husband is a Cossack. Katerina’s father also lives with them. One day she and her husband learn that he is an evil sorcerer who helps the Poles and dreams of marrying his daughter.

Danila puts him in the cellar and plans to execute him. But the sorcerer tricks Katerina into releasing him, promising to mend her ways.

But he does not keep his promise and traitorously murders Danilo. Then the sorcerer again tries to make the girl marry him. On being refused, he murders her son. Katerina goes mad. One day she rushes at her father with a knife and he kills his daughter.

The sorcerer turns out to be the last descendant of the traitor Petro, who killed his friend Ivan out of envy. The murdered friend cursed the traitor’s entire bloodline. Ivan himself became an immortal rider. He finds the sorcerer and gives him up to his dead ancestors.
