The author states that he again has to hear words spoken by an unknown voice who is in the darkness. Someone asks Joyce to come to him, as he considers him to be his thing.

The Irish writer claims that he once again hears words spoken by an unknown person. In his opinion, the latter is located somewhere in the darkness and asks the author to go to her, as he believes that he belongs to her completely. Joyce says that the aforementioned person wants to get him into her own arms with her inherent blind meekness as well as with brutal force. The author believes that love’s feeling should be silenced.

The Irish writer then turns to his adversary. He calls him a sweetheart. Joyce asks his enemy to cover him with darkness and at the same time take pity on him. The author wants him to touch the unbearable cold on his forehead and also to take the living veins out of his heart. In addition, the Irish writer wishes his adversary to lean as low as possible.

He declares that again at nighttime the sound of a mysterious voice comes from the rustling wind. According to Joyce, the phenomenon occurring has a negative effect on his mental activity.
